In my opinion this raises serious concerns. While it’s undebatable that a prosecutor has the power and authority to make deals, should this come into play when charging rather than prosecuting the accused? Should he be concerned with the financial impact on the alleged perpetrator rather than strictly focusing on the available evidence with which to base charges? Where do the victims fit in? I’ve seen various opinions from legal professionals, but I do feel this deserves contemplation and examination.
